“if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land. Now My eyes will be open and My ears attentive to prayer made in this place.” (2 Chronicles 7:14–15, NKJV)
Typically when quoting this often cited verse we leave out v. 15. What is “this place.”? It is the Temple which Solomon had built in Jerusalem. Paul the Apostle tells us in Ephesians 2:19-22 that in Christ, we (His Church) are being built together by His Spirit into God’s temple. Further, the book of Hebrews reminds us everything foreshadowed by the Law of Moses is fulfilled and made even better in our Lord Jesus Christ. So, if this promise was true for Israel, in Christ it is even better. If the consequences of the Coronavirus pandemic have taught is anything it has confirmed we need our God to heal our land – physically as well as spiritually.
Heavenly Father, in Jesus Christ You have made us, Your Church, Your people. May this current crisis humble us by making us aware of our dependence upon You. By Your grace give us the desire to seek Your face, cause us to hate any sin in our lives, confess it, and run from it as we run to You. We offer this prayer based on Your promise made fulfilled in Jesus’:
“Until now you have asked nothing in My name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full.”
(John 16:24, NKJV)
